SqW:Lab, and Mumbai based commercial art gallery, TARQ, in collaboration with The Show Windows, a programme curated by Charlie Levine for the UK Coventry City of Culture celebrations, presented a series of creative window interventions in Colaba, South Mumbai, India. The Show Windows wanted to realise windows in Mumbai as a way to celebrate the large South Asian community/population that are present in Coventry. The idea was to amplify and create links back to this community’s ‘homeland’ and question the idea of migration and belonging.
The Show Windows: Mumbai featured two artists from Coventry alongside four from the India and Indian diaspora, The Show Windows: Mumbai brought six site-specific artworks, three in November 2021 and three in January 2022 to windows in Colaba.
The artworks in Mumbai examined the domestic, and created portals to other domestic spaces, or narratives around stories of home. These windows celebrated the different interpretation of these ideas and what ‘home’ meant, in keeping with commissioners SqW:Lab’s research themes of the domestic.
Fellows: Samanta Batra, Avantika Bawa, Emma Critchley, Mario D’Souza, Ranjit Kandalgaonkar, and Tarla Patel.
